I probably could have earned $500 at work with the amount of time I’ve spent researching my computer and now this printer. I’ve also researched a super fast sheet-fed scanner that I want for my business (I’ve narrowed that down to three as well).
So, on Thursday I bought a printer from Lexmark, but Friday they cancelled my order because they had some problems with my credit card (I think it was because I typed my name in first (because it appears on my card that way), then my business name–when I should have typed in only the business name). ANYWAY, I am happy they did that, because I spent another day doing more research and found another Lexmark printer that I think is better.
The one I think is better is the Interact S605. The Lexmark I bought was the Intuition S505.
There are only a few differences. The small differences are that the Interact’s noise level is 50 dba (40 dba scanning); while the Intuition is 47 dba (35dba scanning)–a bit quiter. Another small difference is that the Interact’s power supply is 32 Watt, while the Intuition’s is 25 Watt–so I assume it uses less energy. The big difference is the reason why I’m glad they cancelled my order. The Interact S605’s display screen is 4.3 inch (109mm) Color WQVGA touch screen with screen saver. The Intuition S505’s is only 2.4 inches (60mm) Color LCD display. (By the way, they are both $149, but the Interact S605 is on sale right now (it’s usu. $199).
The other 2 printers I’m looking at are the Kodak ESP 5250 (which has a 2.4 inch LCD display) for $129: on sale fore $99,
And the Canon PIXMA MP 560 (I’m not sure of the display size) for $149.
I made sure all are wireless and Wi-Fi.
I made sure they all print letter AND legal size documents.
I made sure they were all Windows 7 compatible.
They’re all inkjet all-in-one: print, scan, copy, camera.
I guess it depends on what’s important.
I want a fast printer mainly for documents: the Lexmark Interact S605 has the fastest print speed of 33ppm black, 30ppm color; and a copy speed of 25 cpm black, 21 cpm color.
The Kodak prints 30 ppm black, 29 ppm color; but copies at 30/29 cpm.
The Canon is a bit slower at 26 ppm black, 17 ppm color. (of course all these numbers are just estimates).
I think the Canon would be a better choice for photos because one of the color print resolution specs had a higher number. All the other dpi specs on the 3 printers were the same.
I think the Kodak would be a better choice with ink cost. However, my dad might disagree because it has a 3-color cartridge. He said that if you run out of one color you might still have 2 colors left that you have to throw out and waste because they’re in the same ink container. While the Kodak has only two ink cartridges, the Lexmark takes 4 (1 black and 3 colors). The Canon takes 5 (3 color and 2 black). ANYWAY from what I figured out the Kodak inks cost $10 for the black and $14 for the color ($24). The Canon inks come to around $75. And the Lexmark is about $80.
If Warranty is important, the Lexmark has a 3 year warranty. 1 year limited warranty and 2 year extended limited warranty upon registration within 90 days.
The Canon has a 1 year warranty.
I’m not sure if the Kodak has a warranty or not, but I’d guess they have a one year.
My boyfriend who fixes printers for a living said not to go with Kodak, but he really didn’t say why. He doesn’t like Lexmark either. Of these three The Canon Pixma MP 560 got the best rating on one site, while the Lexmark go the best rating on another site. The Kodak came in 3rd on all sites.
