People say that your home or work space reflects a lot about your life, and vice-versa. Get organized and declutter your own home, and your life might just be a little brighter as well. You can start by setting a day or a whole weekend to clean up your living space and by buying or borrowing a label maker.

Label makers have been used by many people around the world to help keep their home and office free from clutter and mess. Today’s different brands of label makers, like Brother label makers, can now print on full-color, multiple-sized fonts and continuous paper, which makes label printing and organizing a breeze. Here are a few simple, great tips to help you get organized by using a label maker.

1. Choose a good label maker. You can’t get started, of course, if you don’t have a label maker. Choosing the best one for you is simple and easy. Pick a hand-held device that makes it easy for you to carry to the different parts of your house. Label makers with LCD screens that are easy to read are recommended as well. There are also thermal label makers available that don’t use print cartridges, so you can get organized without spending extra on printing supplies.

2. You can’t get organized by creating more disorder. Most people think that using a label maker properly is as simple as sticking labels onto different things. This is just a surefire way of creating more clutter in your home. You can separate items into general groups such as “bills” and “receipts” or “important documents” and “unsorted photos.”You don’t need to use separate storage boxes for something as specific as “Hong Kong vacation photos” or “receipts from December 2009.” You’ll just end up adding more boxes and clutter to your home.

3. Choose three to five different colors to color-code your items in each room. Just because there are a hundred different colors available on your label maker doesn’t mean you have to use all of them. You can use blue, for instance, for your husband’s documents and red for yours. Each of your children can have his own special color so you can keep track of their class photos or records in separate folders.

4. Get your kids to have fun organizing, too. You can teach your children all about organization and how to declutter their own spaces with a label maker. Make time during weekends for quick home or playroom organization and treat it like a game. Buy several containers which you can label to separate toys, books and clothes and ask them to identify which items go in which container. You can even give them points for each item that goes into the correct container!

5. Bring organization from your home to your office or school. Take your portable label maker with you to your office to help keep your files clean and organized, and to declutter your desk. Stick name labels on the water thermoses and lunch boxes of your kids for quick identification.

Living a clean, uncluttered life isn’t all that hard. You don’t have to be Martha Stewart to be able to have an organized home. With a little creativity, hard work and the help of a good label maker, you could be on your way to a clean, happy and orderly life.
