Recycle Toner and Printer Ink Cartridges
We can define recycling as
the reuse of pre or post-consumer materials that would normally be
considered waste. Recycling helps reduce the amount of waste that goes
into landfills, helps decrease the amount of harmful chemicals absorbed
into the earth and, in some cases, appreciably cuts down manufacturing
costs and energy consumption.
The printer ink cartridges, toners and cell phones that are not disposed of in a proper manner, make a great amount of negative environmental impact. 28 percent of the waste is being recycled in the United States today. The rate has almost doubled during the past 15 years. However only 5% of empty printer cartridges and cell phones are being recycled.
There is a solution. Help prevent further harm to our
environment. Recycle your eligible laser and inkjet cartridges and cell
phones.
Some printer manufacturers and retailers that sell printer cartridges offer
services to help customers recycle. A number of the these provide recycle
pouches and collect your cartridges and cell phones. Most of these vendors
include a prepaid recycle pouch in your order. The returned cartridges are
reconditioned for future use or separated into their separate materials and
disposed of properly.
Some companies also recycle hardware, such as used printers. But unlike the recycling of printer cartridges, this can cost the consumer shipping and handling fees.
Other materials that can be recycled are plastic,
aluminum, paper, glass, batteries, tires, computers and consumer
electronics.
Most of these items contain toxic materials that can be released into the
air, ground or water if they are not disposed of in a proper manner. For all
recyclables, contact your local recycling agency to find the appropriate
places to recycle these possibly unsafe materials.

Recycling Methods
If you have curbside recycling service, your
recycling is picked up in front
of your home on a regular basis.
Curbside recycling programs will be
determined by your local government. This recycling method is becoming more
and more widespread in many parts
of the country.
There may also be one or more recycling drop off centers in your city.
Residents drop off their recyclables at these centers.
There are also buy-back programs, community recycling events and refundable deposit programs in many cities. Check with your local recycling agency for more details such as dates, times or locations.
