Most of the online speculation seems to come from DIYers looking to build their own 3d printers.   I’m sure it’s not too good but on the plus side, I did notice that unlike Rapid prototyping involving milling, 3d printing does not waste much material. Once the models are dug out the unused powder, the excess material is put back into the machine for the next job. Additionally the method of rapid prototyping might be seen as an aid to sustainable design with its potential to create replacement parts on demand (as a way to prolong a device’s life), and the possibility that the technology may eventually be used as a recycler of waste materials.
