For a great many small business owners, wireless printers bring to them a world of convenience that would not have been possible otherwise if they stuck to their old, cabled printers. Wireless printers present many advantages that can help them work more efficiently and focus on other aspects of their business in order to get ahead.

One of the mistakes that they can commit when installing wireless printers, however, is throwing away their old printers that require cables in order to work. While this may be reasonable if the old printers are no longer functioning anymore, but if they are still working pretty well, there really is no reason to throw them away. In fact, these old printers can still come in handy even when the office has become completely covered with a wireless network.

How Wireless Printers Work

Basically, wireless printers are fitted with parts that allow them to receive Wi-Fi signals or Bluetooth signals. They communicate with other devices such as computers and mobile phones using these signals. The signal has to be there, or else the wireless printer will not work.

Needless to say, wireless printers can present us a lot of convenience. For one, you do not have to be chained to your desk and neither do you need to leave your desk just to get your printing job done. You can print wherever you are and at whatever time you need to do so. All you need to do is to log onto your network, open the document that you need printed and hit the print button.

Wireless printers can also translate to a lot of savings. You do not have to provide all the people in your office with printers, so that means you can save on printing supplies and printer maintenance.

The Disadvantages of Wireless Printers

The one downturn to relying on wireless printers too much is that you become helpless when there is no signal present. Without the Wi-Fi or the Bluetooth signal present, there would be no communication between your computer or your mobile device and the printer. If that happens, what are you going to do?

This is where your old printers come in handy. You will never know when the signal will disappear and how long it will take for the network to be restored. The old, wired printers may be clunky and clumsy to use, not to mention a lot less convenient than using wireless printers, but you can rely on them to work if there is a problem with your wireless network and it is taking time to get it restored.

Besides, if you take good care of all your printers, whether they are wireless or not, you can expect them to perform well for you. That applies even to the old, cabled printers.

So, you really should not be too quick about throwing your old and network cable printers away just because you have new wireless printers in the office. You will never know when you will need them.
