How To Take Better Pictures

You are a true photo enthusiast who loves taking pictures and you’ve got yourself a nice digital camera. After a few snapshots here and there it started to get a bit boring. You want to take better, creative digital pictures that look more interesting, but don’t know where to start. Well, here are some simple tips and techniques that will make some great differences in your compositions. You can learn how to take better pictures in just a matter of minutes.

Take time to set up a background
Before you begin taking digital pictures, take some time to plan and organize the setting. Set a plain, natural background; eliminate objects that will divert the attention. A clear background will keep the focus on your composition.

Stay at the eye level
Stay on the person’s eye-level when taking your picture. In a digital photo, direct eye contact can be very appealing; however it is not always necessary. But staying at the eye-level will always have a positive outcome in the digital picture.

Try different viewpoints

Try some new and original standpoints and perspectives. Utilize your imagination and try different angles. Before taking your shot try a couple different angles to locate the best position. Take a few vertical shots.

Don’t always place subject in the middle
Try moving your subject from the middle of the shot. Keep it on the side sometimes and make it more exciting. Give yourself some time and try unusual sides. If you have an auto-focus digital camera, be sure to lock the focus as it will most probably focus on the object in the middle.

Stay close to your subject
Get closer to your subject particularly if it’s small. Settle within 2-4 feet. Try not to get further than 5 feet away. The focal point is your subject, so you want the focus to be on it. Zoom in, however don’t get too close. Or else your digital photo won’t be clear, it will look blurry.

Flash usage
Light is one of the most important factors in a good picture. Lighting has a powerful effect on your digital picture. Your digital camera has a certain flash range which is generally less than 15 feet. What this means is that any digital photo taken from more than 15 feet distance will look very dark. Try using natural daylight to give a brighter look on people’s faces. Change your position to get the best light. Try to reflect the light from the side and not directly on your subject. When you do this one side of the subject will be light and the other a bit darker which will generate a meaningful look. When taking landscape photos, early mornings and late afternoons are the best times to get a soft natural daylight.

Be a director
Be dynamic and take charge. Change the placement of your subjects if you don’t like the positioning. Give them directions, select the location to place them where you want and your digital pictures will start looking more exciting and attention-grabbing than ever.
