Today’s technology has given us a long list of choices when it comes to choosing the best gadgets and electronic machines–and printers are no exception. With the prices of dropping as quality all in one printers come out each year, it becomes increasingly difficult to decide on the best all-in-one printer. Should you go for one with an automatic document feeder, or one with better print output? Will a smaller printer be more suitable for your lifestyle, or should you splurge for a bigger model? Don’t get lost in the maze of choices. Here are some tips to help you buy an all in one printer.
1. Decide where to use it. Are you buying a printer for your home or your office? Will you be printing more full-color sheets or black and white documents? Simple questions such as these can narrow down your choices a great deal. If you plan on using the printer at home (for personal document and photo printing) then you can settle for the more affordable, entry level printers. They may not have the print quality that the higher-end printers do, but they print faster and their ink cartridge replacements cost much less. A lot of entry-level models are decent quality all in one printers and even have excellent photo printing as well–just be sure that the printer you choose supports at least 4 x 6, 5 x7 and 8 x 10 format prints.
2. Understand the technical jargon. Know what different printer terms mean, so you know what specs to look out for when you’re out to buy an all in one printer. DPI stands for “dots per inch;” this basically pertains to the quality of the printed image. The higher the DPI of the printer, the better the image quality (of both scanning and printing). Remember, though, that DPI is inversely proportional to the speed of the printer. Another important term to understand is RAM, which is basically the memory of the printer. Just like your computer, the more RAM, the better and faster the performance. When you’re on the lookout for the best all in one printer, try to look for one with at least 16MB of memory.
3. Do your research. There are a lot of good web sites that you can visit to check reviews of different all in one printers. Some tech sites even list the top quality all in or printers based on a battery of tests and user experiences. Read up on comments and check forums and the products’ sites for more information before you buy an all in one printer. You can also see if there are new products coming out, so you can wait for them to hit the market before making your purchase.
4. Check which printers are compatible with your system. This information can easily be found on the web. Although most printers now are compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux, it’s best to be sure before purchasing.
5. Find out if which printers’ ink cartridges are readily available. Check if the ink cartridges of the printer model you intend to buy is still available easily. The cartridges of some older printer models have been phased out. Also, keep in mind that Inkjet printers have less expensive ink cartridges, and most can use third-party replacement cartridges. The ink for the faster laser printers, on the other hand, is more expensive to refill. So, decide whether budget or quality is more important to you when deciding on the best all in one printer.
