A lot of inkjet printer users opt to refill their inkjet printer cartridges rather than buy original branded cartridges when their printers run out of ink.  This is fully understandable. Original inkjet printer cartridges can be quiet expensive, averaging $60 per package.  Not everyone can afford to shell out that much money on printer ink, and this can be a hassle if they use their printer frequently.

If you decide to go down the refilling route, there are a couple of options open to you to refill your empty inkjet printer cartridges with new ink.  You can either take your empty cartridges to a refilling station or refill these cartridges yourself.  When you choose the latter route, you can accomplish it by buying an ink refilling kit.  These ink refilling kits would contain bottles of ink, syringe nozzles, refilling clips and other paraphernalia used in refilling empty inkjet printer cartridges.

You will never find a lack of how-to guides on how to refill empty inkjet printer cartridges.  If anything, that is an indication of just how popular an option refilling ink cartridges is.  However, there are things that you should not do when you are refilling your inkjet printer cartridges, and here are some of them.

  • Ignore the instructions. When you purchase a refilling kit, it is an absolute must that you read and understand the instructions included with the kit.  These instructions will tell you exactly how to go about refilling your empty inkjet printer cartridges.  Not all refilling kits work the same way, after all.  If you choose to ignore the instructions and go about your own way in refilling your cartridges, you may end up wasting the replacement ink that you bought as well as damaging the ink cartridges.
  • Refill without protection.  Before you start the task of refilling your empty inkjet printer cartridges, you should first spread some newspaper on your work surface and don protective disposable gloves.  Spillage is inevitable when it comes to refilling ink cartridges and ink spills are notoriously hard to clean up.  So, unless you do not mind damaging your work surface or going about with stained hands, you should exercise some protective measures to prevent damage from spillage.  You should even change to old clothes that you do not mind getting stained before you refill your inkjet printer cartridges.
  • Waiting too long to do the task.  Another refilling mistake that you should avoid is procrastinating on refilling your inkjet printer cartridges.  It is only easy to put off this task because it is not that simple to do, especially if you are going to do it for the first time.  The downside of procrastinating, however, is that the longer you wait to refill your inkjet printer cartridges, the higher the chances of the remaining printer ink inside the cartridge to dry up.  If you wait too long to refill your ink cartridges, you run the chance of clogging your printer heads.

These are just a few things that you should avoid doing when refilling your inkjet printer cartridges.  This is not a simple task to undertake and you should always do your research first before you attempt this task.
